This painting, Star People, is a loving celebration of my Cherokee Ancestors. I read that in the Cherokee origin story the Cherokee came from star. Linguists who study Native American languages say that the Cherokee language is very different from other Native languages. I like to think of my Ancient Ancestors traveling from a star to arrive on Earth, real space travelers!
I often desire to reconnect with my Native Ancestors. Through painting this painting I was reminded that my Ancestors are a part of who I am and cannot be separated from me. I need not seek to reconnect as much as simply remember who I am, all parts of me. I pray this painting blesses all who view it.
